The Cultural Diversity Day of Massachusetts brought together individuals from all walks of life to celebrate traditions, art forms, and cuisines, and to promote mutual understanding across cultures.
The celebration began with a Cultural Parade through the halls of the State House, followed by cultural exhibits, a spread of Middle Eastern cuisine, and performances ranging from traditional dance to music.
Hosts: Senator Lydia Edwards, Rep. Jessica Ann Giannino, Rep. Jeffrey Rosario Turco, Rep. Daniel J. Ryan, and Peace Islands Institute Boston.
Participating communities and supporting organizations: Azerbaijani Community (ASNE and ACC), Kyrgyz Community of Boston and New England, Chinese Community (China Culture Connection), Kazakh Community (Turkicstan Center), Uzbek Community (Turan Association), Turkish Community (Turkish Cultural Center), Albanian, Indonesian, Haitian, Indian, and Moroccan communities, Boston Dialogue Foundation, and Muslim Women of Boston.
Program highlights included remarks from the hosting legislators and a Peace Islands Institute Boston executive, cultural performances presented in alphabetical order, a certificate ceremony, and a complimentary lunch to close the event.
